Okami - Restaurant Review - Footscray

Okami is a newish Japanese restaurant in Footscray.  It certainly seems to have hit the ground running by all accounts.  It's nice to have a new Japanese restaurant to keep up the diversity in Footscray with its already endless supply of great Vietnamese restaurants.

Okami specialises in an all you can eat deal and it certainly is reeling in the punters, me included.

As you can see in the images, there is a wide selection of Japanese classics.  You can choose everything on the menu but don't expect the best Sashimi but remember, this is all you can eat.

If you are looking for top quality tempura you are going to be disappointed.  It's more like good old fashioned fish and chip batter.  I have no problem with this but it ain't tempura.

It's always nice going to a busy place and Okami is definitely busy.  It's hard to tell if things will stay this way but as long as you realise the all you can eat price reflects the quality I think you can't go wrong.

I do like that they have managed to have a relatively complete menu. You are certain to find something you'll like. It's not fancy but it's not bad either.

Here you can see what I am talking about regards the tempura. Passable but that's about it.

Gyoza is a classic and a favourite of mine.  Again, these are nothing special but they fill the spot.

Yes, plenty of customers and they all seemed pretty happy.

The steamed egg was a nice surprise.

So is it worth your while being one of the many customers who seem to be rushing to Okami?

Okami is great if you are very hungry, it's a group function or you value quantity over quality.  If you want great or special food look elsewhere but within its parameters it works.
