The Moat - Review - CBD

The Moat (176 Little Lonsdale St by the State Library) is a perfect place to go for lunch in Melbourne.  It's close to the State Library and Melbourne Central and has some gravitas in that it is slightly hard to find.

If you never knew it was there I wouldn't be surprised.  It's not easily found because it doesn't find itself on the main drag of pedestrian traffic.  Go find it yourself and once inside you'll be quite impressed.
Roasted peanuts sweet and salty
The food is on the stylish side of trendy but also arguably on the small and expensive side (so you might go away hungry).
The Moat despite its hard to find status is also quite busy.  Don't expect just to rock up and find a spot to eat.  If you intend to try them out do book ahead to avoid disappointment.
Green lentil dhal with toasted almonds, aioli and crusty bread
Like I said, The Moat's servings are definitely on the small side so don't come here starving or you could break the bank.  However, most of the meals do have some demonstrate a bit of flare so you can look forward to something different.
Mojito cured ocean trout with red egg, lime caviar & orange jelly
The Moat is perfect for a work lunch as its just a bit different to most things around the place.  Book in with some workmates and see what they think of the Moat.
Meatballs in napoli sauce, grana pandano and crusty bread
