Master Restaurant - Review - Footscray

The Master Restaurant (Footscray Market, 83 Hopkins St, Footscray) is one of the few Chinese restaurants here.  That's not to say Chinese restaurants are scarce, they are not, but they certainly aren't numerous compared to all the Vietnamese and even African restaurants.

As you can see, Master Restaurant doesn't set itself ahead of the pack as far as decor goes.  It conforms to the standard of food and value for money above looks.  All said and done it pleasant (by Chinese restaurant standards) if you know what I mean.

Food

What I really wanted to try was the crab.  Now these aren't for the faint hearted as they are very messy to eat.  However you are rewarded with delicious fresh mud crab that is tasty and sweet and not over powered in anyway by the accompanying sauce.  If value for money is important to you you'll also get to enjoy your fresh crab at prices lower than in Chinatown.

Crab

I can say that I am impressed by the quality of food here.   Easily equal too if not better than most Chinese restaurants in Chinatown.  In fact I am continually under-impressed by lots of the Asian food in Chinatown and find the quality of restaurants in Footscray very good in comparison.
