Poyntons Of Essendon - Review - Essendon

Poyntons Of Essendon, Boulevard Cafe is one of those add-on cafes so prevalent these days at nurseries (plant shops).  What sets out Poyntons Of Essendon, Boulevard Cafe from most others is the seamless integrated design of the nursery and cafe.  The nursery is designed in such a way that it really complements the cafe.
Exterior
The open and internal dining is well heated for those cold Melbourne days
The nursery also includes a small homeware store and the great selling point of the cafe are its Melbourne views.  The elevated position of the cafe provides views of Melbourne city and across the Maribnong River.

Seamless design between cafe and nursery
The cafe has a menu that covers all bases and while the fixed menu is somewhat staid the blackboard menu should cover off those people looking for something a bit more extravagant or exotic.  Basically is covers off all pricing levels but does so in a real refined way - I was impressed.
brunch
Maybe next time I'll grab something off the blackboard menu as it did look enticing.  Today though was a training day and really I was meant to be passing by and not tucking into a big breakfast.  But hey - rules are meant to be broken aren't they?
brunch
A deceptively large big breakfast
As you can see, the big breakfast is superbly presented with a seemingly obvious focus on fresh quality produce.  The giant mushroom and oven baked tomato make a great centre piece and taste fantastic.  And while first impressions of the big! breakfast are underwhelming (it looks surprisingly small) it more than delivers in quality, taste and filling the hunger pains.

So if you are passing by Ascot Vale, Essendon or Footscray its well worth making a side trip to the local plant nursery and grabbing a great coffee and lots of scrumptious food.
