Yoyogi - Review - Swanston St, Melbourne CBD

Yoyogi is one of those eat and run type of places. Yoyogi is kind of a Japanese noodle bar. Its what I regard as a place that is really a place to go if you need a bite to eat before meeting someone or going to the movies or are just in a rush.  For city workers its probably also one of the better places to get a regular lunch.

The grilled eggplant with miso paste is a nice starter.  As seems very typical that the miso paste is kind of extremely sweet (at least for my tastebuds).  This seems to be the norm but I'd probably prefer it to be slightly more savoury.  It's nice but I definitely preferred the Age Dashi Tofu.

The Age dashi tofu or deep fried beancurd with fish flake is a delight.  The fish flakes always look superb when the dish arrives, the light soy flavoured soup is perfectly matched and the beancurd was fried to perfection.  The beancurd was moist, light and juicy.  All up it was an ideal entree.

The noodle dishes were good but not special.  I cannot complain as they definitely my expectations.  No problems with the quality of the food and they tasted great.  The Tori Kara Age ramen or deep fried chicken noodle soup is nicely presented and the fried chicken supplied separately on its own plate to add to your noodles as you please. Perfect to keep the chicken nice and crisp.

The Geki Kara ramen or deep fried prawn, squid ball and kim chi is probably a bit underwhelming.  The fried prawn was a bit cold and therefore not as crisp as I would have liked and the squid ball just didn't taste that great.  I'd probably recommend you stay clear of this and order an alternative ramen dish as there is plenty to choose from.
