Mario's Coffee House in Hawthorn is adequate but nothing special. Its modernish and probably full of students during the day but for a weekend visitor to Hawthorn cannot really be recommended.
It does have one nice corner alcove spot right in the front of the premises so if you manage to get this it will make a very nice place to read the paper and have a coffee. Other than this Mario's does not stand out from the rest of Melbourne's numerous cafe's.
If you can't grab that corner spot it may be suitable for a takeaway coffee otherwise expect a functional, okay establishment that will meet most expectations but not really exceed them
