Trotters Cafe - Review - Carlton

Being in Lygon Street is always a bit of a treat. A Mecca for Italian restaurants its also home to Readings bookshop and Nova cinema. What's not too like.

Modern and busy
Modern and busy
But with a bit of character
Trotters (don't be put off by the name) is pretty close to Nova cinema and is also full of patrons. Always a good thing. Living out of Carlton, its always hard to choose and as visitors know once you get towards all those Italian restaurants and having the shopkeepers all inviting you in it really becomes hard to decide. Trotters isn't really at the restaurant end so you have a bit of peace.

A special this particular day was the pappardelle with smoked salmon, chilli, dill, fennel, lemon and cream. Its a bit of a classic styled pasta dish.  It was nice, certainly above average but not superb. Nothing wrong with that and I would recommend again. To get a truly fantastic pasta dish is pretty hard to achieve.

Fantastic beef burger
Fantastic beef burger
The Trotters 'this little pig' burger comprising of a house made beef pattie, caramalised onion, provolone cheese, crisp bacon, cos and aioli with fries is truly outstanding.  A burger and fries typically isn't an order where you expect to be surprised. However, I am happy to say that this is the best burger I have had in Melbourne ever.
