Breizoz French Creperie - Review - A classic

I love Smith St and Gertrude St in Fitzroy. This is one of my most favourite parts of Melbourne.  I also happen to work on Exhibition St so I run in this area quite frequently and had always wanted to try Breizoz French Creperie.

I can report that my I should have come sooner as it really is a great place.  I am already looking forward to my next visit. Its that good.  The crepes really do stand head and shoulders above the ubiquitous offerings you see now days.  Try them and you'll find out what I mean.

I like that this place has a bit of character. It doesn't try to be middle of the road nor does it try to hard to be cool.  Note: It probably doesn't have that cool factor if that what attracts you to places.

Breizoz menu is obviously based on crepes and what I do like is that they specialise and don't have a jack of all trades menu.  Its a creperie and thats what you get.  The menu is bascially split into savoury, sweet and flambees.  The ingredients for the crepes also stand out.

I am happy to say that the goat cheese and onion and the goat cheese (Fromage de Chevre) crepes were superb.  The goats cheese matches the crepes perfectly.  Having just watched Heston I have a feeling it is to do with the melting point of goats cheese but I am no expert.

The praline and chocolate crepe is probably a step down.  Not because its not good but because the savoury crepes were so great.  Also, its probably more difficult to have a dessert crepe that really stands out from the crowd.  It certainly looks the part and tasted great.

According to Breizoz, cider is a traditional accompaniment to crepes.  Who am I to argue. They offer a selection of cider and they do have more distinguishing flavours than the regular bottle store variety.

Anyway, if you couldn't tell Breizoz comes highly recommended and I can't wait to go again.
