Mr Hobson is one of the waterfront restaurants in Port Melbourne (9 Bay Trail, Port Melbourne VIC 3207). While being on the waterfront is a great thing it also generally means another thing. Okay but not exceptional quality. Where does Mr Hobson fit in?
Like everyone else, it feels special to dine out on the waterfront. With that my expectations are lowered for desirable dining spots, think Lygon Street and waterfront spots. The experience generally just does not match up expectations.
I give Mr Hobson credit. They do make some unusual presentations. Something different is always good in my books. After you dine out a while you can almost predict the menu before you enter the door.
Mr Hobson has an extensive array of seafood options befitting it's waterfront location. It's also price friendly coming to Mr Hobson. This really is the great selling point of Mr Hobson. You get to enjoy it's location without breaking the bank.
The food at Mr Hobson can be decribed as contemporary modern. Maybe 10 years ago this would stand out from the crowd but it's kind of standard now. It's not a downpoint it's just the reality of the modern marketplace. Still, ithe dishes do have that nice modern asthetic.
You could say that Mr Hobson is kinda busy looking inside. It's certainly modern and is at least striking.
All up because of its local, generally stylish looking and tasting food and it's waterfront location I like Mr Hobson. Is it a world beater? Definitely not but the sum of all its parts actually add up to a greater. If you keep your expectations moderate Mr Hobson is a great dining experience (for its price point).
