Phoenix Bar and Restaurant - Review - Brunswick

Phoenix Bar and Restaurant on Sydney Road in Brunswick has a bit of an austere look.  It's on the high street (a good thing) and on a Friday or Saturday night I can imagine it getting busy, even if it's mainly the bar.  It's not a bad venue for the beer and younger crowd but probably needs to elevate itself if it wants to appeal to a wider range of clientele.

The seafood platter is pretty good for what it is.  Melbourne is never going to be a seafood capital so my expectations are always a bit restrained.  You certainly get more than enough for two people and we were both struggling at the end.  On quantity grounds alone it is worth it.

Overall, I enjoyed the seafood platter.

Nothing to report here except that the ubiquitous fries matched perfectly with the seafood platter.  They can't really go wrong can they?

As you can see, the seafood platter covers all the usual bases.  However, if you are a true seafood lover you are going to have to go high end or go to Victoria Markets and cook it yourself. The Phoenix Bar and Restaurant delivers within expectations and there is nothing wrong with that.

Overall, I am a happy camper although I think the Phoenix Bar and Restaurant does have the potential to raise its game to another level.  The basics are there and it does have a pretty good location on Sydney Road.

Phoenix Bar and Restaurant is an okay bar and restaurant in Brunswick.  Perfect for a local Brunswickian and for a group dinner or to catch up with friends.  It's not exceptional but prices are fair and it's on the high street.
