Thien An (32 Irving Street, Footscray VIC 3011) is one of the more upmarket Vietnamese restaurants in Footscray. As you can see its does set itself apart from some of the other Vietnamese restaurants around but does it deliver?
As a dining environment, Thien An is a cut above the usual Vietnamese restaurant. However, I can't help but feel there is a certain sterility to Thien An's interior. Kind of like something isn't quite right.
The environment is one thing but most important is the quality of the food. Well, Thien An is not what I would call special. Nothing particularly bad but neither anything exceptional or positively memorable. This isn't a bad thing but neither is it inspiring.
So while you can enjoy a nice meal in a pleasant and modern environment, Thien An does not really raise itself above the other multitude of Vietnamese restaurants in Footscray.
I guess, its great selling point is its modernity and general good quality of food.
So while there is nothing wrong with Thien An, I was left a bit underwhelmed. It's more modern design created some expectations of something a bit different and a few surprises. I was left with something good but never exceptional.
