Kanteen - Review - South Yarra

Kanteen is on the banks of the Yarra in South Yarra.  Its a reasonable place if you are on a walk from the city and is well frequented by the many Melbournian cyclists, especially on weekends.

Kanteen has a nice distinctive exterior and is also close to the barge/boat that takes you to Herring Island if you feel like a mini excursion.  Don't get too excited though as Herring Island is probably one of those places only really worth visiting once to satisfy your curiosity.

Personally I was a little let down by this place.  Having been past it a few times I'd always wanted to go in and check it out.  There is not a lot particularly distinctive about the food and it is very pricey for what it is.  None of the food feels as if its made on premises.

However,Kanteen does fulfill a niche.  If you are walking around this area from the city and feel like a pitstop on the way back there are few options.  Its also a nice enough place to enjoy the company of your friends as its a friendly and unpretencious place.

However, for a cooler spot to grab a weekend coffee I do suggest you try the Lawson Grove Milk Bar (1 Lawson Grove, South Yarra) as this place has a bit of character and x-factor to it.
