Pier 35 in Port Melbourne and I should emphasise it's more in the industrial area than by the ferry terminal is surprisingly good. Keep in mind you will have to make a special trip to get here but if you have the time and inclination you will be rewarded.
As you can see, Pier 35 is right beside the river and has nice water views if you book yourself a table nice and early. It's also perfect for those weekend cyclists who want to have a bit of a gourmet lunch.
Like many of the places reviewed the food here is very good. I wouldn't ever say Michelin stars but good all the same. The food at Pier 35 is immaculately plated and just asks to be eaten.
The mixed seafood starter is perfect. Not too heavy, not oily, its looks great, is perfectly proportioned and tastes great. It sets everything up perfectly for the main courses.
As you can see, it basically says eat me!
The seafood spaghetti is also great. I like that it isn't totally destroyed by a cream or tomato based sauce. You can still see and taste the seafood properly and it goes perfectly with the light feel of the starter. Of course, being by the water makes having seafood that much more appropriate.
The steak is a steak is it not. Well yes and no. Anyway, I really enjoyed the steak at Pier 35 and it always helps if it looks divine on the plate. You could argue its a bit sparse but if you are having a few courses I think its nice not to overload. Moderation has its moments.
And of course to end its nice to have dessert. Now cheesecake it's really going to set the world on fire in the excitement stakes. Still, you can see it is again immaculately presented and tasted perfectly fine. Special, no but I am particularly picky about commenting on desserts as so few are genuinely special.
