The Temperance Hotel (426 Chapel St, Melbourne VIC 3141) is a typical pub / hotel restaurant in Prahan. It's great for the casual punter who happens to be around Chapel St at dinner time and of course for locals.
As is common now days, the Temperance Hotel has a menu that is equivalent or better than some restaurants. I'm all for a good pub meal and the Temperance Hotel is a good example of how it should be done. As you can see the old days of plonking salad and chips on the plate may be over (not that I have anything wrong with that). A bit of designer'ish food is nice.
As you can see the Temperance Hotel has some nice food on offer and present it as well as any restaurant in the city. It tasted great as well if you were worried.
I'm a sucker for salt and pepper calamari. When will I learn? It's not too say that the Temperance Hotel was bad. It wasn't. It just wasn't special. Frankly the quality the calamari being cooked is the issue and this doesn't just apply here. Across the board throughout Melbourne, restaurants cook the calamari great. You can just tell that the calamari is not fresh.
All so to sum up the Temperance Hotel offers great pub food at good prices. I wouldn't sya they are super special but equally I think most people will come away satisfied if they happened to dine at the Temperance Hotel.
