Dalmatino's - Review - Port Melbourne

Dalmatino's (280 Bay St, Port Melbourne, VIC 3207) claims to be in their own words "a rare and welcome taste of classic, heart-felt European culinary culture, and to experience its relaxed Mediterranean café charm. Fusing the friendly warmth of genuine Adriatic hospitality with the comfort and chic of sophisticated dining, Dalmatino offers a rich array of sublime home-style Croatian fare".  I'm not going to deny this as one of the reasons I wanted to try Dalmatino's was for something different.
Classic cured meats
This place is popular and can get a bit noisy.  I'd also recommend making a booking or you are likely to be disappointed.  This is a well frequented place.  As you can see Dalmatino's has a nice unique European rustic kind of look.  It has character but is also kind of awkwardly designed as it is quite narrow.
An attractive and distinctive decor
I give it plus points for standing out from the crowd in the designer stakes so although it could do with a bit of soundproofing I like this place.
As you can see there is plenty of seafood on the menu befitting the Mediteranean and Dalmatian coast.  I've never been there but I'd love to.  Oh well, I can pretend at such places at Dalmatino's despite not overlooking the ocean.
The food at Dalmatino's is a delight and has an old school charm to it.  It kind of feels earthy (in a good way).  There is an honesty to it so to speak.  I'd recommend coming here in the Winter months based on what I had but then again maybe the menu changes a bit throughout the year.
As you can see, all the food looks very inviting and I am happy to report delicious. the signature dish of Dalmatino is the Dalmation fish stew with soft polenta.  I'd definitely recommend this even if the description is a bit underwhelming.  Blame my prose on that part.
The crumbed dumplings filled with chocolate and topped with spiced apricots were a treat.  They are something a tiny bit different from what you get around the place and topped off the dinner nicely.
Dalmatino's has quite and extensive menu and offers something a bit different.  Well worth a try if you are in Port Melbourne.
