Lalibela Cafe Restaurant - Review - Footscray

Review of Lalibela Cafe restaurant, African restaurant in Footscray, Melbourne by Howie's Melbourne Food Blog Footscray is a mini haven for African cuisine in Melbourne.  Footscray is kind of unique in that Vietnamese and African food dominate. An unusual combination to say the least.  Today its  Ethiopian cuisine at Lalibela Cafe Restaurant.

Interior

This is sort of an iconic restaurant in Footscray and sort of like the original African restaurant.  Lalibela has some African paintings and decor and traditional cooking equipment is also on display.  If you book in advance a traditional tea ceremony can be organised.  Probably something for a special occasion or just to try something a bit different.
Design

On the menu today is Derek Tibs and a vegetarian dish.  I guess this type of food doesn't make for dramatic or exciting photographs but it is what it is.  I am partial to Ethiopian/African food and quite enjoy the different dining experience, ie, eating with your hands.  This won't be for everyone so be warned.

I have to admit it probably better to go for some kind of combination meal or having a group of people numbering four or more so you can experience greater variety of foods.  The Derek Tibs was probably a bit dry and the vegetarian nice but not spectacular.  Don't be put off because I like the dining experience at Cafe Lalibela
