Max's Restaurant - Review - Red Hill, Mornington

Max's Restaurant in Red Hill, Mornington is definitely worth a lunchtime visit if you are in the vicinity.  For us Melbournites, Red Hill, is a nice day trip or weekend away.  What's not to like being at a winery, with friends and enjoying great food.  Just be warned that for those with a large appetite they may find that the serving size is moderate.

Max's Restaurant do know a thing or two about cooking and all the dishes looked superb and tasted great.  Although it's hard to fail with a good steak I am happy to report that the steak was every thing I could ask for and the presentation immaculate.  In my books the serving size is about perfect.

Max's tasting plate is certainly one out of the box.  It doesn't really conform to the usual tasting plate you get at most places.  That's either a good thing or a bad thing.  However, if you are thinking you are going to get some salami, preserved or cured meats, olives, cheese, capers or the other usual suspects you will come away disappointed.  If however you like something a bit different I think you might be pleasantly surprised.  Anyway, worth a try if just to satisfy your own curiosity.

The warm salad of roasted beetroot, caramelised onion, walnuts, baby spinach and red hill cheese 'coolart soft' is really good.  This comes highly recommended and is a perfect accompaniment to your main dish.  You just keep nibbling away and can't stop and as you can see it looks divine on the plate.

You can take in the views and try plenty of wines, cheese and preserves in the accompanying Max Restaurant store.
